Introducing – John Raptis

John Raptis is a Melbourne, Australia based photographer who has been photographing live music almost 10 years ago. As a lover of hard edged music, he wanted to marry that passion with photography. He considers live music photography to be one of the hardest disciplines to learn when it comes to photography so the challenge was there to get really good with the camera.
Shooting almost 100% of all shows with a Canon 5D MKII and a Canon 24-70 f/2.8, John hopes to upgrade soon to a second body Canon 5D MKIV. For larger shows, festivals and the like he also shoot with the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 lens.

There have been many favourable moments in the photo pit for John but he mentioned “I think shooting Metallica in 2010 when they were performing on their ‘in-the-round’ stage was a phenomenal experience for what was then pretty much a rookie photographer. Also shooting the big acts such as KISS, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden always gets the heart pumping!”

We love Johns work, his consistent style is instantly recognisable. He has a good collection of published books and tee’s all to fit the brand.  You can see his work on the links below, and we certainly encourage you to check him out.

We will be catching up with John again soon to find out more about his past year and some of his best moments.
